Education and Training

EMPLOYEE TRAINING

The various agencies within Harrison County which provide services involved with employee training have established a program known as the "Training Center Without Walls," which tailors training programs to the specific needs of the employers in Harrison County. Representatives meet with interested employers to provide information on the services which each agency offers, and a program is designed to meet the particular needs of each employer.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The Harrison Hills City School district serves most of Harrison County, with a new state of the art campus housing high school, Jr high and elementary students located at 100 Huskies Way in Cadiz. The administrative offices for the school district also are located on site.

Students residing in the Bowerston, and northwestern portion of Harrison County, along with those in southwestern Carroll County attend Conotton Valley Union Local Schools, with an elementary school in Bowerston and a high school at Conotton Valley High School in Leesville, Carroll County. The Adena-Harrisville area of southeastern Harrison County is part of the Buckeye Local School District, with students attending elementary school in Adena and high school at Buckeye Local High School in Rayland, both in Jefferson County.  Very small portions of the county are served by Edison Local and Union Local school districts.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION


The Harrison Hills School District is a part of the Belmont-Harrison Joint Vocational School District, which conducts a full range of programs at the Belmont Career Center near St.Clairsville. The Harrison Career Center, Cadiz, is an extension of the main school, offering agricultural, office skills, and other programs, primarily for Harrison County students. Buckeye Local students attend the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School, while Conotton Valley school system students attend Buckeye Vocational School in Tuscarawas County. All three vocational school systems offer adult programs, as well as those for high school students.

POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION

Belmont College, North Center is located in Cadiz. Belmont College offers two year degree programs, adult education, and special programs, including customized job training in various fields.

Belmont College, Main Campus is located in St.Clairsville (less than 30 minutes away). The institution offers specialized programs and degree programs not available at the North Center. Many programs are operated in conjunction with Ohio University Eastern.

Kent State University and Ohio University operate branch campuses with four year degree programs in New Philadelphia and St. Clairsville, respectively. The Franciscan University of Steubenville and Jefferson Community College offer two and four year degree programs in Steubenville. Wheeling Jesuit University offers four year degree programs in nearby Wheeling, WV. All of these institutions are available within a thirty minute drive of most Harrison County residents.
